Access & Disability
Our community is dedicated to being a welcoming and accessible space for everyone. We warmly invite and encourage the participation of members and visitors who are deaf, disabled, neurodiverse or have other access needs.
We are actively working to identify and remove barriers that might prevent individuals with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities from fully participating in our services, events, and all aspects of community life, and we welcome your comments.
Accessibility Features
To support your visit, we have the following facilities available:
Mobility
- Step-free access to the main entrance of the building.
- Designated wheelchair accessible and step-free seating for both men and women on the ground floor of the synagogue.
- An accessible toilet is located on the ground floor.
- Reserved car parking spaces are available for blue badge holders. Please contact the office in advance to ensure a space is available for you.
- For an Aliyah (being called to the Torah): Men who do not wish or are unable to use the steps will be offered the honour of an aliyah from a convenient location such as their seat.
- For ‘Voices from the Hill’ (delivering a Dvar Torah): All congregants who wish to deliver a Dvar Torah may do so from the location most convenient for them, such as their seat.
Sensory
- A hearing loop system is installed in the main synagogue hall. Please switch your hearing aid to the ‘T’ position to use this facility.
- We provide large-print prayer books and magnifying sheets to assist with reading.
- We recognise that our services and events can be sensorially overwhelming for some. If you need a quiet moment, please speak to a synagogue official and they will be happy to direct you to a suitable space.
Neurodiversity and Cognitive Disabilities
- We work closely with families to create meaningful and celebratory Bar and Bat Mitzvah experiences for teenagers, adapting the service and preparation to meet their individual needs.
- A box of sensory objects is available to use while you are in the building.
Magnifiers Available
We have available, on request to the Wardens, A4 magnifier sheets for those members who need help reading in shul. Please do ask for one if you need it.
