Rabbinic Team

Rabbi Michael Rosenfeld and his wife Tracey Schueler are our Rabbinic Team at Muswell Hill Synagogue, here is what they say about themselves.

At Muswell Hill Synagogue, Rabbi Michael Rosenfeld has found a community that is both rooted in tradition and open to new ideas. As Rabbi, he works to nurture that balance — creating space for learning, connection, and a Jewish life that feels meaningful in today’s world. The community is well known for its warmth, creativity, and strong sense of purpose, and every Shabbat, festival, and conversation with members reaffirms what a privilege it is to help build a community where Jewish life feels engaging, relevant, and deeply connected.
Before making Muswell Hill his home, Rabbi Michael served as the Jewish Chaplain for Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities, supporting students as they explored faith, identity, and belonging in a fast-changing world. Earlier, he led Kingston & Surbiton Synagogue, where he enjoyed fostering interfaith connections and providing rich learning opportunities for all ages and stages of life.
Originally from the United States, Rabbi Michael studied History, Hebrew, and Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin, and received his semicha (rabbinic ordination) from Yeshivat Hamivtar in Israel. He also holds a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology, with research focused on how young professionals express and sustain Jewish identity in the workplace.
When not at shul, Rabbi Rosenfeld enjoys spending time with his family, keeping active, and running half marathons around the country — exploring new routes and communities along the way.

I’m Tracey, and I feel truly honoured to be part of the Rabbinic team here at Muswell Hill Synagogue. My work is all about building community – helping people feel connected, supported, and inspired. With over twenty years of experience in community leadership, education, and the arts, I’m passionate about creating spaces where everyone feels they belong.

Before moving to London, I was CEO of Ark-T in Oxford, an arts and mental health charity that used creativity to bring people together and support wellbeing. I’ve also worked with organisations such as the Barbican, the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), and the V&A Museum of Childhood, and served as Jewish Chaplain for Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities.

Alongside my community work, I’ve volunteered in leadership roles including as Vice Chair of the Oxfordshire Sexual Assault and Rape Crisis Centre (OSARCC). I hold degrees in Drama & Theatre Studies and Business, and I try to bring creativity, compassion, and a practical outlook to everything I do.

Together with Rabbi Michael, I’m excited to continue building a warm, inclusive, and spiritually vibrant community here in Muswell Hill. When I’m not working, I love cycling, spending time with my family, and volunteering for causes that are close to my heart.
